Welcome to RPG Forums Online
Hello! This community site is based around the world of RPGs, role-play, fantasy, anime and manga and gaming. Anything related is welcome here, whether it be just a place to hang out and chat about RPG topics, or discuss the latest PC or console games, or chat about a film, book or trading card series. And of course, there are hundreds of role-plays to get involved in via our message-based or play-by-post forum and our live role-play chat facilities. We also feature web-based RPGs, including our version of The Legend of the Green Dragon, which can be accessed via the LotGD and RPG World links above.

If you are new to RPG Forums Online, the first thing you need to do is register. If you have already registered, you should login (if you have not done so already). Our Newbie's Guide to RPG Forums Online will give you a good idea as to what is available within the site, so it would be worth while spending a few moments to look it over.

We also have a site podcast that enables you to 'hear' RPG Forums Online as well as 'see' it, so why not subscribe for free.

If you have any questions or comments, post a message in the Suggestions and Help forum.

Holiday Greetings!
Ornament! From Smandoggi:

Yo RPGers, it's March, which means we've got an equinox coming up, along with various other cultural celebrations of equinicity. May your festivities be (in)appropriately festive!

We Are Three!
Birthday! From Ozental:

That's right! RPG Forums Online is three years old this coming Saturday, 8th September.

It's been an interesting few years and much has happened since the birth of the site. In the early days, when the site was growing, we had a few dedicated members who helped contribute to the site and particularly the forums. I won't attempt to mention any names here for fear of embarrasing them (and myself should I miss any names from the list). What's most pleasing is that many of these members are still here today, and as active as ever, which is personally great to see. After all, it means we must be doing something right!

But things really started to go well for us when we received our 1,000th member. You know a site is doing well when you get to those sorts of numbers. And look at us today... over 9,000 members and 350,000 posts, with around 150-300 members visiting the site each and every day.

So to finish off this brief birthday message, we would like to thank each and every one of you for your time, dedication and input into making RPG Forums Online one of the best role-playing communities available.

Happy Birthday RPG Forums Online!

The Hobbit - The Movie
The Hobbit - The Movie From Ozental:

There has been a lot of talk recently in the world of film, relating specifically to the potential making of "The Hobbit - The Movie". Of course, details are very limited at the moment (and in fact many would say almost non-existant). As I'm sure many of you know, Peter Jackson (The Lord of the Rings Trilogy) is in despute with New Line Cinema, events that are currently going through the courts, so that counts Peter out from directing.

Other talk mentions Sam Raimi (Spider-man 3) or Peter Weir (Master and Commander) as a possibilities, the latter currently seeming the most likely.

Obviously the bigger questions in many people's minds are "So who's going to star in the movie?" and "Who from The Lord of the Rings will be in it?". This is an interesting question, but one that I won't attempt to directly answer here now. Not directly anyway... one thing you need to understand is that the book "The Hobbit" is very different than the LotR. 'The Hobbit' was written as a children's book and whilst some of the characters feature in both books, the themes and moods are very different.

All in all, we'll need to wait to see what happens and how things turn out, but with the Internet filling up with Hobbit-related web sites and communities, there are certainly plenty of resources out there.

But for us, at RPG Forums Online, naturally we can draw on themes from "The Hobbit" to aim us in our role-plays. In fact if you think about it, almost all of our role-plays started off from J.R.R. Tolkien's book. Role-play like Tolkien.... Discuss the movie....

The Legend of Zelda : Twilight Princess
The Legend of Zelda : Twilight Princess The Legend of Zelda : Twilight Princess For Nintendo's long-awaited Legend of Zelda : Twilight Princess, the designers have split the game into two versions - one for GameCube and one specially designed to make use of the Wii, utilising the powers of the Wii controller for all-new ways of exploring Hyrule. Shown at numerous demo kiosks in Nintendo's booth at E3 2006, we were able to go hands-on with the title. Does the Zelda formula work with Wii's new controllers? Or will long-time fans be disappointed with the changes? Here are our impressions...

When we initially heard that Nintendo was adding Wii controller support to our most anticipated videogame, we were worried. After all, Zelda titles are not really about pointing and clicking and more about fighting and puzzle solving. We had a feeling sword-slashing freehand controls would feel gimmicky in a third-person game and ultimately be far less accurate than the traditional lock-on/button control. In hindsight, we should have had more faith in Nintendo's Zelda team. The developer smartly integrated Wii pointer and nunchuck control to deliver something that not only works, but feels fresh.

It's a gorgeous game filled with great puzzles and characters - and apparently it is a longer and more involved quest than any Zelda game before it. The changes the control setup in the Wii version adds to the game profoundly impact the game's feel. Fishing feels new. Blocking feels new. Shooting arrows feels new. Even the spin attack has a new twist to it. So even though you may encounter a familiar looking puzzle, the new control dynamics give everything a fresh coat of paint. Yes, you can get excited now. See the trailer...

Hottest Posters
Hottest Poster After much deliberation and contemplation, the moderators of Contest Central have whittled down the first round contenders of our 'Hottest Poster' competitions to five finalists in each category, one for the men, the other for the women. (In case you missed it, the first round forum threads are here for the female and male categories). This competition has proved to be our most popular competition to date despite it not being RPG or fantasy related at all.

But that doesn't stop us from continuing the trend and you can rest assured that apart from the final which is taking place now, there will be other similar contests running in the near future. So as they say, 'on with the show' and let's get judging the finalists to see who are our hottest members: female finalists and male finalists.

Compete!
Competitions As many of you hopefully already know, we aim to feature regular competitions on the site via the Contest Central forum category, some of which have been known to offer prizes such as fantasy artwork, RPG games and the like. Well, we have a few new competitions currently running that we thought we would make you aware of.

The first new competition we are featuring is one whereby you get to direct the famous death sequence in Final Fantasy VII, where Aeris is killed by Sephiroth. The second and third new contests are ones that we've traditionally shied away from but perhaps because of the recent availability of the Gallery feature, we are now running a 'hottest poster' contest, both with a male and female category. Hopefully you will look at it as 'just a bit of fun', whilst also getting another chance to 'see' site members that you often role-play with online.

Obviously there are other contests but these are a few of the latest additions. So with that, we'll leave you now so that you can compete...
