Victorian England is the setting for this harrowing melodrama. Benjamin Barker (Johnny Depp) is living a simple life as a barber with his wife Lucy and his daughter Johanna (Jayne Wisener) when the lust of a judge (Alan Rickman) throws all of their lives into chaos. The judge has Benjamin Barker deported to Australia, and it is many years later that he returns to England, under the pseudonym Sweeney Todd with revenge on his heart. He wishes to reclaim his family and punish the judge and the society who destroyed it. With the help of Mrs. Lovett (Helena Bonham Carter), a pie shop owner who had known Sweeney and his family all of those years ago, Sweeney goes about seeking vengeance and reaping the benefits of that bloody journey.

The movie was amazing. A bit dark my normal taste but the music and the plot just seemed to draw the viewer in and keep you watching. A must see for all musical fans.

This is one of the must see films for me. Not just because the story of Sweeney Todd is a classic, but also Depp and Bonham Carter are such amazing actors.

It took me a while to figure out why the gore was so cheesy but once I got the angle, I really did like the movie. Who'd have thunk Captain Jack Sparrow had a nice set of singing pipes?

ah, I loved It! It was just my taste. I could go with a little more gore...and a slightly darker air of terror; but i suppose the lightness of comedy in that dark setting was what was desired. ANd as always all technical aspects of the movie were lovely; anything tim burton is amazing! ^_^

I found johnny depp just perfect for the part...he has to be one of my favorite character actors (though I am not sure he puts himself into such a category..I do it for him @.@ )

all in all...it was a most satisfying movie!

I went to see this just yesterday, actually, and I loved it, too. x3 It was perfect for my morbid tastes. xD I think I agree with a friend's description of the movie as "beautifully dark." There were so many nice design decisions that contributed to the dark atmosphere...the organ music in the beginning, the cracked mirrors, the gaunt expressions of Todd and Mrs. Lovett, the setting (a city that never seems to see sunlight)...Loved it all.

The music was really great, too...Johnny Depp's a good singer. o_O

I actually could've done with less gore, but...it looked kind of fake after a while anyway, so...that was okay. >.>

But yeah...overall, yes, the movie was quite enjoyable. >D

Personally, I think Burton purposefully made the gore a lil cheesy. If the blood is orange, people won't be looking forward to the gore when they know its coming, giving them no other choice but to watch the characters more closely. I think making the blood surreal made the characters all the more concrete.

... either that or he was short-budgeted.

Lol. At any rate, I think everything was amazing but that one kid that kept singing "I feeeeeeel you, Joaaaaaaanna..." that guy was a real creeper. Got on my nerves a bit.

Other than that, LOVED it. 'Specially the ending.

Johnny Depp was a rockstar before he was an actor. Dropped out of school at 15 to become a Rock God, fronted a few bands, opened for Iggy Pop Smile and then his then missus introduced him to Nickolas Cage, and Johnny had his debut in A Nightmare on Elm Street in 1984.

I've seen the movie, despite the fact it's not out here yet, but I can't wait to see it on the big screen. I love this story.

I never knew that about Depp. It explains why he was able to do such a good job with the music.

And yea. This is DEFINATELY a movie you have to see on a big screen.

I thought this movie was excellent.
I wish it had a better ending though.
But I guess it was reasonable cause if he lived he would probably kill himself anyway because he didn't know it was Lucy. Confused

I liked the ending. It was kinda ironic that he didn't harm the innocent children in the city, but the innocent child is what ended up being the death of him the end. It could have been shot better tho.

Yea, one of Johnny Depp's movies other than Sweeney Todd is a musical. Cry Baby is the name of the movie, very....weird. Kind of a really bad take off of Grease in someways but not exactly.

I thought it was pretty average, actually. I mean, I'm a huge fan of the whole Tim Burton/Johnny Depp/Helena Bonham Carter tag team, and (shamefully) a huge fan of musicals too. And let's not forget Timothy Spall and Alan Rickman, who were also great as the slimy bad guys you love to hate. I won't deny that some bits were genuinely entertaining, but I dunno. The setting was brilliant, as it always is in Burton films, and same goes for the music - but something was just missing for me. Maybe it was the whole Johanna/Anthony thing that got up my nose, or maybe (and more likely) I'm just missing a chromosome or two.

Why shamefully? Musicals are great, just remember Jesus Christ Superstar Very Happy

But i agree with you about the movie. Something was missing. Althoug everyone played great (*bows to Deep almighty*) I didnt get anything out of the movie. It ended and that was it. I hate movies that leave the thought 'that was that, what now?' in you head after they finish.

But overall i would grade it 3/5, which is not bad at all.
