UPDATE: This game is currently full!

Hey, I found my old campaign adventure The Temple of Elemental Evil from way back in 1985. It's a classic game, set in the World of Greyhawk, but anyone familiar with AD&D (as it was called back then) may remember it. The campaign book has 128 pages, so it could last a long time Smile

Knowledge of Greyhawk is -NOT- required. Any D&D or prior RPG experience is fine. No experience necessary! Newbies welcome!

The adventuring company is an established group, that way you don't have to spend weeks introducing/meeting each other. You have all been working together for several seasons, so you already know who's who.

We are actively recruiting! PM me for more details

This is more than just a 'writing' game. I want to include dice rolls, and attack modifiers, and stat bonuses, and saving throws, etc. That means, when you post, you write what you're trying to do, and I, as DM, will tell you if you've succeeded. It can still be story format, but with an OOC component at the end of each post.

Quote:

For example;

Denaii the Priestess draws her Holy Symbol and thrusts it forward at the zombie. Her gaze never wavers as she steps forward, attempting to drive away the vile creature. She can feel her heartbeat pound inside her ears, and a droplet of sweat slowly traces its way down her left temple to her cheek.

OOC: Denaii is trying to TURN UNDEAD, Charisma bonus +1, and don't forget she chose Extra Turning as a feat, so she can do this all day Smile

If you're interested, ask to take over an NPC (Bryce, the friendly Barbarian Berserker is available!). Don't worry about posting your stats, skills, feats, etc. I'll trust you to point them out in the OOC part of your post, since you'll have to trust -ME- to do all the dice rolls. Yeah, I'm old. Back in the day, the DM did all the rolling in secret behind a DM screen.

Expect lots of action and frequent posts.

So, any takers?

Multi-class is fine with me, however, this is a relatively low level campaign so they have to split the 3 levels allowed. So if its a dual-class character, then you have one class at level 1 and the other at level 2, or a multi-class with 3 classes, but all at 1st level. I'm only vaguely familiar with multi-classing rules, so if I'm wrong here, let me know.

The campaign book says to start all characters at level 1 and they'll advance up to level 8 by the end, so there wll be more than enough experience points thrown at you to advance a multi-class character.

I'll post an intro scene to give a little more detail, so that I can maybe draw more intrerest.

What multi-class are you considering, if you don't mind me asking. Since you're familiar with TOEE, a Druid mix (the Old Faith) would certainly be acceptable.

Yes, this is still in the works. I'm trying to get a couple more people involved.

Go ahead and post a character sheet with as much or as little detail as you like.

If I have to start with just you, I will. Maybe I'll add a few NPC's to use as fodder for the creatures (LOL).

3.5 CS is fine. The game is written for 1st ed, but feel free to use 4.0, or Pathfinder, or whatever you're most comfortable with. As long as we all have fun Smile

History of the temple:
The temple referenced in the module's title is an unholy structure located in the central Flanaess not far from the city-state of Verbobonc. In 566 CY, forces of evil from Dyvers or the Wild Coast constructed a small chapel outside the nearby village of Nulb . The chapel was quickly built into a stone temple from which bandits and evil humanoids began to operate with increasing frequency . In 569 CY , a combined force was sent to destroy the Temple and put an end to the marauding. The army included regular forces from the human kingdoms of Furyondy and Veluna, dwarves from the Lortmil Mountains , gnomes from the Kron Hills, and elven archers and spearmen. This allied army clashed with a horde of evil men and humanoids, including orcs , ogres and gnolls , at the Battle of Emridy Meadows . The forces of good were victorious and the Horde of Elemental Evil was scattered. The Temple was then besieged and fell within two weeks , although a few of its leaders managed to escape . The site itself remained, however, and over the following decade rumors of evil presence there persisted. The Viscount of Verbobonc and the Archcleric of Veluna became increasingly concerned , and cooperated to build a small castle outside the Village of Hommlet to guard against the possibility of the Temple rising again. For the next five years , Hommlet gained in wealth thanks to adventurers who came to the area seeking out remnants of evil to slay. Things quieted down for another four years as the area returned to peace and normalcy, but in 578 CY evil began to stir again, with groups of bandits riding the roads. It is now 579 CY, by Greyhawk Reckoning.

Jack,

You asked me in a PM about Mounts and Pets. I'll reply here so everyone can read the answer.

I'd planned on opening the game wth the Company on foot, having had their horses stolen by a group of Troll raiders. The official story says the group is tired, broke, and out of supplies, so losing the mounts ties in with that.

As far as pets go, a wizard can have a familiar (along with the benefits and -RISKS- they bring), and a dog or cat (or even a wolf, I guess for a Ranger) might be OK, or possibly even a falcon if you're a Falconeer (sp?), but no Bear, Rocs, Displacer Beasts, unusual pets.
Something simple is OK. A word of warning! If you have a pet, they -ARE- vulnerable to being attacked, especially if you send it into battle!

How do you feel about homebrew? I have a fun idea for a character concept, but he's best illustrated in a variant fighter I thought up. Because fighters were only ever any good in the grimore that is weaboo fighting magic, (tome of battle) which imitates spells. I thought hey, why not give them spells? Thus, the necro-knight was born. It's a fighter that does not gain his fighter bonus feats, but instead gains the ability to cast all spells of the necromancy school. He progresses in spell levels and gains spells per day as a sorcerer. Charisma is his key stat for casting, and it's considered divine spellcasting. (The excessive use of the word "paladin" should give hint to that) So it does not incur armor penalties. But I don't plan to have him wear armor anyway. As he doesn't really have a sense of self preservation. He only tries to not die so he can be alive longer to destroy and take from others. What he feels they take from him with all their insolence.

Necro-knight seems like a decent class to construct because it's mostly a debuffer, but can fight back. Rather then build himself up, he tears everybody else down. I wouldn't go making undead legions or something. It just wouldn't be befitting of the character. He doesn't want an army, he doesn't want rabid followers, he just hates like only the gods of such domains could hate. Nerull weeps maggots out his cold dead sockets out of pride for this abomination to mankind.

The name of our necro-knight is "Fuklaw". Aptly named by his parents, because ever since he was a baby. He wouldn't listen to anybody. Just throw fits in his crib and pull the family dog's tail. Ever since he was born, he has had one mangled, deformed eye that's covered with an eyepatch. It is believe that this eye has blinded him of all things beautiful in the world, and he can only see the bad, the terrible, the depressing, and it has warped his soul... He didn't get much better as he grew older. His hatred only grew deeper, it matured. He began to hate everything, even himself, the very essence of life. Words could not describe his utter disdain for everything. And it was like a noise he could not turn off in his head. The throbbing of heartbeats, driving him mad. Their sick laughter, their grotesque faces, noticing every pore, every blemish. He became poetic in his hatred. But what he hated most was his brother. His brother was never man enough in his eyes. Of a frailer, more swashbuckler build. His brother looked like a mutilated woman to him. In his own twisted way, it was out of love. Fuklaw just wanted his brother to be better, but he could not imagine that others do not feel the same hate that he does. They say paladins are born, not made. Well the bloodline must skip a few generations. Because both of these boys would grow up to become very defined paladins. (I use the term paladin as a fluff thing, not mechanical) But a paladin has more to do with what lies in their heart then some literal alignment. (Which is why I like unearthed arcana's variants) His brother was the more typical paladin. A paladin of strict valor, integrity, and always played by the rules. Studied hard, and spoke softly, but carried a big stick. (Or sword I should say) The older brother was loud, obnoxious, rude, a total jerk ass who thought of no one, not even himself. One day, in an epic duel of good vs evil, the two met up after years of not seeing each other. As the younger sibling walked over to his older bretherin, tormenting some poor shopkeep over the price of fish, giving him painful noogies and twisting his nose. His younger brother thought back to all those purple nurples and pink bellies Fuklaw gave him. Getting a sick pleasure out of his suffering. He faintly said;

"You have not changed at all brother..." Fuklaw turned over and looked at his younger bro.
"Still a fruity little man I see... did you even grow any since last time I saw you?"

He unsheathed his sword and pointed it at Fuklaw.
"Pay your respects! You might be family, but you are still talking to a paladin of The Holy Order!"

Fuklaw yelled a deep laugh from the bottom of his belly up, then looked back at his younger brother whom he calls "Blood Raven". The name stems from himself nicknaming himself Blood Angel, and his little brother Blood Raven for having "much smaller wings". (Freud would have a field day...) He just looked at Blood Raven with a grin.

"So you joined those bunch of stiffs eh? Wasn't it enough to be mom and dad's favorite? Need reassurance from the chorboys and these fat smelly villagers?!"

"You're every bit as mean spirited and full of wickedness as the day I left home Fuklaw..." As quickly as Blood Raven can strike him with his sword, Fuklaw pulls out his sword and blocks it.

"Either you've grown weak, or you're holding back. Either way I'm very disapointed in you..."

"Unlike you savage, paladins have honor, integrity, I am not permitted to shed blood within the town."

"And yet you took the risk of me not being fast enough just for little ole' me, didn't you? I should've left my hand where it was at... got you in big trouble..."

"You care so little of your own life brother?"

"Your God damn right. I'm just another frail, pink skinned, sack of regrets, ridiculous fantasies, and excrements coming out of several orifices Blood Raven. Just like any other mortal."

"That is not my name... And your complete disregard for life... all life... just how many demons live inside that shell?"

"Just one. From disbelief that I did not kill our parents sooner." Blood Raven's eyes bulge out and then he squints.

"Liar... you didn't kill our parents... not yet anyway..."

"Yeah... but the look on your face was priceless."

Blood Raven puts his sword away and mutters not having any more time to waste with the animals. And that if he catches him outside the tapestries of town, he WILL kill him. As Blood Angel just mounted his sword over his shoulder, he hung his head down, shook his head, and raised it.

"Little Blood Raven..." A tear rolls down the blind eye.
"I always hated you least of all..."

Name: Fuklaw, aka: "Blood Angel".
Race: Human
Class: Necro-Knight
Age: 28
Alignment: Chaotic neutral. (He hates everything, even evil. Though it could still be argued he's chaotic evil.)

Feats:
Improved Initiative
Spell Focus: Necromancy
Toughness

Skill Ranks:
Since you didn't say what our stats would be like, can't really determine skill ranks. So I'll just say intimidate and climb would be my highest skills.

Weapon:
Had a homebrew idea for a weapon enhancement too. It's a +1 bastard sword, that deals an additional +1d10 damage when attitudes toward him are unfriendly or hostile. He literally feeds off your hatred and anger, it only makes him stronger.

A character portrait:

And don't worry about him flying off the handle and killing other PCs. I hate when other jerk ass players so much as attack another player, (especially me... lol!) let alone outright try to kill. Besides some snide comments and the occasional psychotic rant that should leave you more disturbed then worried, my little piece should hint to he can carry on conversation and live amongst civilized people. (Relatively anyway...) He's like Hannibal Lector. He kills on his time, not your's.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1G812V9z9NM <--a little music too that's almost as metal as he is... lol!

Sounds good to me. I'm very excited. Trolls aren't tenderfoots, they'll mop the floor with us if we don't work as a team. I could just see Blood Angel's reaction now.

"Why has my sword failed me? I could not feel the negative energy pulse from my handle and feel the veins of my enemies tear. Those trolls pushed me aside like I was a child and took my hose. Now I have to walk on my useless stubby feet! Those trolls will pay for my discomfort in blood!

What's this? It appears I'm not the only one who's incurred the theft of these trolls... unlike me however, these pathetic mongrels look like they deserved it!

Am I really going to have to work with these bottom feeders? Is my horse really worth that much effort? Screw it. As soon as I get sight of those horses, I'm killing them. Then nobody will have horses... that'll show all of them. I'm hungry... I should get married so a woman can cook me some breakfast.

But then I'd have to hear her nagging... forget it... Hmmm...

*Thinks about riding a woman like a horse*

And they said my intelligence score was low!" <--A little breaking of the fourth wall there.

Just bumping this topic up for the DM, surprised there isn't more posts, but then again today's been pretty slow in general from the looks of the forum.

I found some more necromancy spells at D&D wiki to mix it up. (I try to keep things fresh and suspenseful, it's easier to do that with different spell choices. Not so much trying to be prepared for every situation.) I thought up my own spell, but it fairly powerful so I'll save that for a level 4 spell. (Assuming we get that far... lol!)

Don't worry about posting your stats, skills, feats, etc. I'll trust you to point them out in the OOC part of your post, since you'll have to trust -ME- to do all the dice rolls. Yeah, I'm old. Back in the day, the DM did all the rolling in secret behind a DM screen.

Sorry, I thought I posted this already, but I guess not...

My one big concern with necromancy is that most rulebooks consider it inherently evil. Even a chaotic neutral character wouldn't dabble in raising undead... And any party with good or lawful characters would refuse a necromancer in their group. The group really needs Good characters, heroes, to defeat the Evil in the Temple of Elemental, well, Evil Smile

Wild Elf race is fine as long as it fits with the rest of the group. Shouldn't be a problem.

My first thought was 'no way' for the Elemental, but the more I thought about it, the more I like it, but I think it may be too powerful for a low-level campaign... I like the idea of the Druid/Sorcerer dual-classed. Not a combo I've seen before... Then again, since there is so little interest in this game I can let you play both if you like, and if Jim wants to be a necromancer, go ahead.

Do either of you mind?
Jim, can Jack play two characters?
Jack, can Jim be a necromancer with a bad attitude?

Can you both come up with a brief history of how your Company of Seven came to be (note the 4 NPC's later in this post), and maybe give a brief example of your past adventures? I know you haven't actually adventured together before, but make something up.

Post your Character Sheets, and I'll start the IC, if that's OK with you. I'm going to add four NPC's to the group, an elven male fighter who's new to the company (don't get too attached, he dies in the opening act), a female human thief (she dies too), a male dwarf priest, and a half-elven ranger. The priest and the ranger survive, along with your three players.
Post any backstory ideas here, details, fill in the blanks, whatever...

I'll link the IC here when its ready. Probably on Monday.

Hello

I know hardly anything about D&D and would need some guidance into how to set up a charter.

Will there be a set time and day for this or will it be someone posts and you wait till all have posted? I'm not familar with this either.

I do read D&D type books and play Lord of the rings online, DDO line.

i would like to play a Dwarf Fighter with double blade battleaxe. I have not determined if the weapon will be 2 handed or single with a shield. Posslbe we will care both types. He would be kind of a grouch, complining, don't like elves exterior to make him look tough, but not hard on the inside.

The answer to the questions will determine if I can join or not.

How do I roll this charater?

Thanks for asking me to join

CptAlan,

Thanks for posting! If you haven't played D&D before here's a quick primer:

There are six statistics
Strength - physical muscles
Intelligence - ability to learn
Wisdom - ability to reason
Dexterity - coordination/balance
Constitution - health
Charisma - charm/beauty/personality

Each statistic is between 3 and 18 (typically you roll a six-sided die four times and keep the best three rolls).

A dwarf fighter needs high strength and constitution. . . You know what, I'll make it easy for you. You want a Dwarven Fighter with a double bladed axe and a shield. Let's get descriptive. What does the dwarf look like? any scars, tattoos, jewelry? What kind of armor (leather, chain-mail, plate-mail?) Describe the shield, round, oval, square, wood or iron, painted with a crest or polished silver, etc, etc,.

Where is he from, mountains, a big city or a small village? Any backstory, like is he an orphan or a prince, or the son of a great warrior?

Have fun with it, and try to think of a way he fits in with the other characters that Jack and Jim describe. I'll help you with the numbers later Smile

Balendor sounds like a fairly typical dwarf. I like it. Interesting how we claims to dislike elves and spellcasters, yet his adventuring group has a Wild Elf Druid/Sorcerer (played by iamjack) and a Necromancer/Knight (played by JimProffit), and an elven fighter (NPC) and a half-elf (NPC).

I think its a good mix. The necroKnight will complain alot but he defends the team, the Dwarf will complain alot but defend the team, and it will all work out.

Jim, are you still here? What do you think?
