Message by Alias:
The Armory as you see it here is similar to a seminar, but lacks a lecture or any assignments. However, anyone registered on RPGFO is welcome to post or discuss weapons and armor, whether real or fictional, from any and all eras and themes.
Please maintain OOC, and be respectful if/when correcting someone else's entries.
Ritz unlocks his office door and flips on the light. He smiles as the light reflects off the variety of weapons and armour scattered about. Setting down his breifcase next to a stack of reference material, he eases himself into the leather chair. "Where to start?"
-----------------------------------------
(OOC: This section will be a quick stop for anyone looking for information regarding weapons of any type as well as some types of armour. I plan to regularly update this section (perhaps every couple of days) with descriptions, information, and images of various weapons for RPers to use. Consider this a cheat spot for those who don't want to research such information. If there are any specific weapons someone would like information about, either ask here or PM me and I'll make sure they get put up.)

Ritz sits back and looks over his first group of weapon reviews for Sci-Fi RPs.
Class: Ion/Plasma Weaponry
Plasma weapons function by ionizing gases to produce a superheated ball refered to as plasma. This ball is then projected forward by using magnetism. This causes plasma weapons to be short ranged, but cause an extreme amount of damage.
Image originates from d20 Future rulebook, page 73.
Plasma Pistol
A plasma pistol weighs approximately 3 pounds and is easily concealable. It is powered by a miniture battery pack that holds enough energy for about 50 shots.
Plasma Rifle
A plasma rifle is a more powerful version of the plasma pistol. Weighing approximately 8 pounds, it has almost an 80 foot tactical range (twice that of the pistol) and features a burst mode that rapidly fires 5 rounds. Overuse of the burst mode can cause the weapon to overheat which can take several seconds to return to operating capacity.
The plasma rifle can be weilded one handed or two and has a duel battery system capable of supporting 50 shots each.
Image originates from d20 Future rulebook, page 163.
Plasma Cannon
The big dog of the plasma weapons category. The Plasma Cannon is equal to a traditional rocket launcher is damage. It creates a polarized plasma ball which acts as a magnet causing it's firing angle to slightly bend towards metalic objects while in flight. These weapons make great anti-vehicular support.
The plasma cannon can only be weilded two handed and has a quad-battery system. This is due to the enourmus energy output. One battery cell is only useful for two shots.
Beam Sword/Light Saber
These weapons symbolize the peak of plasma technology. They function by channeling and projecting a line of ionized plasma. This line is kept in shape by carefully focused electomagnetic disks set within the weapon's hilt.
Plasma Grenade
The plasma grenade uses an electromagnetic resonator to cause the plasma to burst in every direction. The effects are very deadly, but short lived as the dispersed plasma cools very quickly. Plasma grenades are only effective if within 10 feet of the intended target.
Ritz nodded in satisfaction and filed the information away. "Next I'll do 15th Century Swords." _________________

Ritz sighs and leans back in his chair mumbling about his cramped wrist. He quickly scans his reviews before filing them away. "Next comes Laser Weaponry" Ritz mumbles aloud.
Class: 15th Century European Swords
In the 15th century, only nobles where allowed to carry a sword. Swords in this age were were designed as multifuntional weapons as armour had hit it's peak and required skilled use to by-pass.
Long Sword
Unlike what is commonly seen in games long swords are two handed swords that average around 40 inches in total length. They weigh an average of between 3.5 to 4 pounds.
Long swords are designed for both thrusting and cutting as they were designed during the era when armour was at it's peak effectiveness. A commonly used technique with long swords is called "Half-swording." This is where the sword is held at the hilt and at mid blade, to enable it's user to wield the sword like a short spear. This gave the user increased thrusting accuracy as well as a more powerful strike.
Bastard Sword
Bastard swords are a smaller counterpart to the long sword. They average 34 to 36 inches in length and weigh between 3 and 3.5 pounds. Bastard swords were developed as a knights sword for use upon horseback where a long sword would be to cumbersome. They are usable one handed or two and are essentially a smaller version of a long sword.
Falchion
Falchions where a common sword style among the lower classes of nobility. They are one handed and single sided making them ideal for use with a shield as well as useful as a side sword. They weighed an average of 2.5 to 3.5 pounds and measured around 26 to 30 inches in length.
All images originally created by Albion Swords and will be removed upon request.
Cousille
A cousille is, more-or-less, an oversize dagger. Also known as a short sword, these weapons were within legal limits for civilian use and were frequently carried by upper class merchants. The weapon'smain purpose is thrusting. _________________

"Finally..." Ritz states tiredly. He had been busy as of late and has had little time to sit down and finish this set. He smiled to himself triumphantly as he quickly rereads his work.
Class: Laser Weaponry
Laser weaponry functions by highly focusing high powered ultraviolet light, creating a stable laser beam capable of traversing large distances. Laser weaponry's main use is for long range and high accuracy situations. It's highly focused beam gives it great peircing ability, but as such minimizes damage caused to the struck area. Extreme care must be taken when using laser weapons as they will not kill a target unless striking a vital area.
Laser weaponry also have the built-in function of regulatings the energy output for the beam. Increased energy outputs allow the weapon to penatrate heavier armours such as those of a tank, but it rapidly depletes the weapon's energy reserves.
Image originates from the d20 Future rulebook, page 67.
Standard Issue Laser Sniper Rifle
Used by many future era snipers, this weapon is very versital in ranged combat situations. It features a night vision scope and is compact enough for use in close quarters situations. It's battery cell is capable of holding 50 shots.
Image originates from the d20 Future rulebook, page 77.
Pulse Rifle
The pulse rifle is an advanced form of the standard laser rifle. This weapon is very large in comparision and features a quick breakdown and rebuild system for better battlefield functionality. The pulse rifle was disigned as the ultimate sniper weapon. It's higher energy output makes it's standard shots able to peirce hefty armour and this output level is still able to be increased for even higher penatration and damage factors. Due to this weapon's energy output, it's battery cell is only capable of sustaining 10 shots.
This image originates from the d20 Future rulebook, page 163.
Laser Mini-Gun/Chain Gun
This weapons was designed for supression fire purposes. It fires a frightening 100 shots per second and is able to literally shred targets at over 200 yards. The weapons itself is massive and normally used with a tripod. The laser mini-gun feeds from a miniture fussion reactor that can be carried as a backpack or set upon the ground next to the weapon's tripod. Health effects relating to prolonged exposure to the fussion cell are currently unknown.
Shifting through the pile, Ritz finds a couple half finished reviews of futuristic weapory that don't seem to fit into any of the above categories. Some of these weapons include mass drivers, otherwise known as gauss weaponry, and a review of a Disintegrator Rifle. Digging out a book, he starts to do the necessary research to finish these reviews. _________________

Ritz tosses a book asside and stares at the stack of reviews he just finished. "This stack was tough..." he mumbles. Organizing them in no particular order, he reads back through them looking for typos.
Class: Mixed Future Era Weaponry
This image originates from the d20 Future rulebook, page 163.
Recoiless Rifle
This weapon is the peak of projectile sniper rifles. It fires an energized shell that detonates upon impact. The weapon is very large and is only firable from a tripod. The main function of this monster is to provide long distance anti-armour support and it does it's job very well. The weapon has a 20 shell magazine.
Image originates from the d20 Future rulebook, page 73.
Gauss Weapons/Mass Drivers
Mass drivers function by propelling a titanium shell through an energized chamber to propel the shell at subsonic speeds. This allows the shells to penetrate any known armour or object at long distances. These weapons are normally only found as single shot rifles, although rare sightings of mass driver sidearms have been sighted and are reported to feature and automatic feed system.
Image originates from the d20 Future rulebook, page 77.
Lightning Gun
The functions of this weapon are unknown to this scholar. It appears to function by using energy provided by battery cells and propelling it as raw, high voltage electricity. The weapon is rather short ranged, but spreads over a good size area. Incidents have occured where the individual operating the weapon have been struck by a rebounding arch resulting in severe injuries.
This image originates from the d20 Future rulebook, page 73.
Concussion Rifle
This weapon creates an artificial gravity pulse that is projected towards the intended target. The pulse itself is transparent, but the anomaly forces light to bend around it, creating a visible fluxuation of background objects.
Gravitonic Grenade
These grenades produce an extremely powerful gravity fluxuation that has enough power to turn a full size tank into peices of scrap. Gravitonic grenades should be used with extreme caution.
Image originates from the d20 Future rulebook, page 77.
Disintegrator Rifle
This rifle functions by firing a micro-singularity and disrupts atomic structures, there-by causing the target object to break down on the molecular scale. Any target struck by such a weapon begins to immediately breakdown and disappear. The unstability evens itself out after a breif period so that only the target, or part of a very large object, will be effected. These weapons use a specially created power pack that contains enough power for 10 shots. These weapons are experimental and as such are illegal in any RP unless stated by the RP creator.
(OOC: These weapons are extremely powerful and should only be used with permission by the RP creator. Ammunition for these weapons should be considered not purchasible to minimize the use of these weapons.)
Ritz roles his eyes after reading the last weapon. His first thought is to simply throw this review away out of fear of it becoming overused in RPs, but the goal of having a complete weapons listing quickly overwhelms any such logical urges.
Filing this new group away, Ritz realizes that he has yet to do any reviews relating to armour. Pulling out a few dusty books from his shelf, opens the first one and begins taking notes. _________________

Ember unlocked the door cautiously and entered the Armoury. She knew it had lain empty for some time, but she had a few ideas of her own. The winged backpack on her back held many of her favourite weaponry reference books.
Setting it and her laptop down on the dusty, dark wood of the desk, she spotted a couple of papers lying on the seat. Must be left from when Ritz was last here, she mused, picking them up. Armour, she read. I'd forgotten about that...I'll add that to my 'to do' list.
Class: Traditional Archer Bows
Longbow
Longbows were developed by the Normans around 1,000 years ago. They used it to defeat the English in the Battle of Hastings in 1066. Subsequently, the English adopted it! The longbow is made of a single straight piece of wood such as yew. By tradition, the longbow is typically shot without a sight (except perhaps for a rubber ring above the handle) and without any other shooting aids. The same bow can be used by both right-handed and left-handed archers.
Recurve Bow
Recurve bows were invented around 2,800 years ago by the Assyrians. Unlike the longbow, the ends of an unstrung recurve bow are curved away from the archer. This allows the strung bow to be more powerful and shorter than the longbow - ideal for the horsemen who invented it! Unlike the longbow, a one-piece recurve is made of several thin laminations fixed together in the recurved shape rather than one piece of straight wood.
Most modern recurve bows are made in three pieces - a body (called a riser) with two detachable limbs that fit into each end. The riser is made of wood or lightweight metal alloy cast into shape or machined from a block of metal. The middle of the riser is offset to the side (left for a left handed archer and right for a right handed one) to form the bow window. This allows arrows to be shot more centrally past the bow than with a longbow. A handle with a hand grip is fitted on the riser. The limbs are made of laminations of materials such as wood, glass-fibre, carbon fibre and ceramic. A long rod can be attached to the front of the bow (away from the archer) to stabilise the bow on release of the arrow. The bowstring is made of around 12-18 strands of very strong man-made fibre, twisted together. Two rings of soft metal or thread are fixed closely together on the serving to form a knocking point to which the notch (called a knock) in the arrow's tail can be clipped when the bow is about to be drawn.
Compound Bow
Compound bows were invented in 1966 in the USA. The bow has off-centred pulleys at each end. Steel cables are fixed at the end of each limb. These pass around the pulley at the opposite end (directly or via another linked cable). The free ends of the cables leaving the pulleys are joined together with a bowstring. The pulleys provide a mechanical advantage that makes the bow easier to hold at full draw. A compound is more powerful and shorter than a recurve. It has a wide bow window enabling the arrow to be centre shot. Many compound archers use additional shooting aids such as a telescopic sight with a horizontal spirit level, a back sight fitted within the string (called a peep sight), a draw length limiter and a mechanical release aid for holding and releasing the string. Owing to the power of the bow and the shooting aids, the compound bow is the most accurate of the three types of bow described.
HOWEVER- many find this type of bow harder to draw due to the pulley system in place.

Ember sighed and removed her glasses, pinching the bridge of her nose in an attempt to relieve the ache building there. More tomorrow, I think, she mused. _________________

Storm sidled somewhat cautiously into the Armoury, despite the fact that emberworf and Ritz had allowed him entrance he still felt although he was trespassing on a great source of knowledge. Lowering himself into the well used leather chair and taking his references out of his bag he began to sink into the work...
Class: Oriental Weapons 1 - Samurai Swords The first thing you must realise when using a Samurai sword in an RP is the quality of an actual Samurai blade. These are weapons that you would not be able to purchase anywhere, for a weeks wage (unless you are the queen); in fact these are highly expensive due to the labour and skill intensive production. Also when using these weapons I feel one should consider their character having had training in their use and also some knowledge of the Samurai/Bushido Code.
Katana/Daito This is the main weapon of a Samurai and the traditional symbol of the Samurai. Originally these were produced with straight blades but over the centuries became curved as the changing warfare called for stronger sharper weapons. The blade of a katana is approx 25 inches. They are available with many different styles of hilt ranging from basket to blade catcher. The scabbard on some swords can be used as a parrying weapon but is usually easy to cut. The Daito would be worn by Bushido (Samurai Warriors) as part of the Daisho, the pair of swords.
Wakizashi/Shoto The Wakizashi or Shoto was the second part of the Samurai's Daisho. This blade would be used to commit suicide if mortally wounded or found in a posistion where there was no other honourable path. The blade is the same as the Katana except measures normally between 15 and 20 inches. When working with the Katana or Wakizashi you should consider the concealability of the weapon. Also although sharp it is impossible, without magical help, to slice though another blade. A fine example of any of these weapons will very easily slice human flesh but require skill to use in combat against an armed enemy.
Tanto The Tanto is the dagger equivilant for the Samurai. The advantage for this weapon is its obvious concealability.
Zatoichi In 1876 the use and wearing of swords in public was banned by the Japanese Government. This inspired the Samurai to create the Zatoichi desing. When housed in its scabbard the Sword appears to be a harmless cane. However these "canes" could contain as much as 30 inches of high carbon steel blade. This blade is excellent for concealment and adds an aura of mysticism to your character but cannot be as strong or sharp as a regular Katana due to its straight blade.
Others There are also several other swords that do not deserve a catgory of their own as the are so similar to others or unused. Some of these are The Ninjato, straight ninja sword, and the Jitte, iron bar used to combat sword attacks. Also for reference the term "Iaito" refers to training swords. These are metal but do have a sharpened edge.
With that Storm closed his books and returned them to his bags. He placed the newly written archives on the shelves next to the Samurai Blades themselves. Then, taking his diary from his jacket pocket, he wrote himself a note. It read 'Compile Research on: Other Oriental weapons & Armour' _________________

Storm re-entered the Armoury, his bag barely held shut and his arms full of books. Sitting down at the old desk he continued his work.
Class: Oriental Weapons- Other These Weapons are from all over Eastern Asia and from different time periods. Most of them require training to use and have a martial arts association. Naginata The Naginata is a combination of a spear and a blade weapon, similiar to a European Halberd of Glaive. It consists of a long staff with a curved blade on the end. The weapon can be used effectively against swords by keeping them at a distance. It is also effective against a target on horseback. Traditionally this weapon would be used with a fighting style called Naginata-jutsu. Anyone using this style will have a considerable advantage over anyone not trained. Hojo The term Hojo refers to to a collection of ropes used to restrain a person. There are a variety of ropes used in a skill known as Hojojutsu. Ho meaning to catch, jo meaning rope, and jutsu meaning skill. The ropes can be used with a variety of hooks to capture the target. Hojojutsu follows these simple rules:
1. Not to allow the prisoner to slip his bonds.
2. Not to cause any physical or mental injury.
3. Not to allow others to see the techniques.
4. To make the result beautiful to look at.
The rope with the barbed hook would be used to hook and halt the target before the user comes in with the other ropes to restrain the target. The photo above shows a method of restraint known as the Cross. Sai The Sai is a bladed weapon nearly always used in a pair. They can be used in a normal grip, reverse grip, or held by the blade tips and used in a clubbing fashion. With lots of training these can be thrown. Staff The staff is a widely used weapon in Oriental History. Its obvious advantage is its seeming harmlessness. It is tapered towards the ends to aid with blocking and weight. It has various lengths depending on the user and purpose. Tessen Tessen refers to a fan used in combat. These come in a variety of patterns and materials ranging from wood to metal. Tessen are available that are just a cast piece of metal in the shape of a folded fan. These would of been used in history also as a weapon. Kozuka This fine throwing blade would be stored in the Saya (scabbard) of the Wakizashi. Shuriken These darts would be thrown by hand. Also Shuriken Stars used for throwing. Tonfa These are essentially nightsticks. The shaft can be found round or square, and, although rare, sometimes with sharpened ends. These weapons require a combination of speed and power to use effectively.
Taking his bag, but leaving the books Storm left, hoping to return soon. _________________

Dark slowly entered the Armory, looks at the information compiled
"No armor yet, I'll have to something about that."
He sat down into the chair by the old desk and thought of the people who sat before him. He pulled a laptop from somewhere, and powered it up.
"Let's get down to business."
Old Style Armor
Leather Armor
Leather armor was used all through from some of the earliest battles to as soon as the 16 and 17 hundreds. This type of armor has been used for many thousand years. It was mainly used by people who could not afford metal armor. However, many often sewed metal studs or disks onto it. It can also be hardened to increase the strength of the armor. It is cheap, light and can block blows from a sword as long as they are not very strong.
Metal Armor
Metal armor came in multiply varieties, including chain mail, plate mail and suits of armor that in the later years included them both.
Chain mail involves taking tiny rings of iron or steel and getting them together before they cooled or welding them together, for this reason chain mail was expensive, heavy and sometimes refered to as a blacksmiths worst nightmare.
Plate mail was used after arrows where fired hard enough to pierce mail armor. It was a series of small metal plate riveted together to form a strong yet flexible sheet of metal. It was continued to be used up until the 15th or 16th century, where it became outdated by two things. The beginnings of the widespread use of gunpowder and the increased power of arrows. It is bulky, unweildy and cost quite a bit since it must be made of steel and at this point in time steel was still hard to manufacture.
Suits of armor are just thick padding covered by leather armor and metal armor including both chain and plate mail. After the use of gunpowder became widespread most of these armors where done away with andup to the invention of kevlar, there was only one real protection against a bullet, running and hiding.
Modern Armor
Modern armor consists mainly of kevlar, which is a type of polymer that is woven tightly and has enough stength to stop a bullet at close range. However, bullets with an armor piercing capability and coated to allow them to go through kevlar, will pierce this like a hot knife through butter. So, now days many types of body armor are backed with ceramic plates. These are strong enough to stop bullets but shatter easily.
Future-istic Armor
Many people speculate on what types of of armor will be used in the future. Here are the ones that I feel are the most likely canidates.
Shields
These are very tricky to discribe correctly. They are highly advanced and require a lot of energy. They can be rigged in sizes ranging from small enough to carry on your person and weighing only a few pounds to generators large enough to sheild entire planets. Depending on your personal style the colors of these can range from clear to a light blue or pink. They are most often clear as these are the easiest to make and require almost no tampering. The more power that is used against them the more power they expend to keep themselves up. Many smaller models have enough power in their batteries to with hold light damage for several hours and heavy damage for several minutes. The enormous generators used to sheild cities and planets have giant power converters for their use only. These can keep the sheilds up under heavy bombardment for anywhere from several weeks to years depending on the size of the generators and converters. The generators used on ships can with hold damage varying on the size of the ship and the level of the technology. Most sheild generators are extremely expensive and are not within reach of most individuals. There is one type of sheild generator that requires almost no power input, it takes the power used against it and uses it to power itsself and in some cases grow even larger. These types of generators are nearly impossible to find and if you do find them are so high priced that only the richest of the rich can get them. There is one downfall to using that kind of sheild, they are nearly impossible to control, highly suseptible to blowing up during power surges and are extremely hard to control at the best of times and everything that can go wrong will go wrong with these things.
Electron Armor
This type of armor relies on expelling electrons out in every direction to stop sub atomic particles. Because of thisand their high power usage, this type of armor is only used on ships, and is only used when there is a threat of ion, plasma or other such weapons.
Sorry there are no pictures.
Dark set this information on an empty shelf by the armor racks.
"There, that should help with the armor."

Eberktor sat down, looking over the entry Dark compiled.
"Intriguing, sir, but not extensive enough, in my opinion."
Leather Armor:
Comes in several varieties. The most common is boiled leather, which is tougher and stiffer than the leather used for shoes or clothes. Next is laminated leather, or lamellar, which used thin strips of wood or horn in between layers of leather. This actually provided a good deal of protection, pretty much anything but a direct stab (spear tip, sword tip, arrow tip) would glance off, yet was lighter and more flexible than bronze and steel armor.
Bronze Armor:
Heavy. VERY Heavy. Bronze is softer than steel, and with the introduction of steel weapons, bronze armor had to be made thicker so it could withstand strikes from steel arrowheads. Having said that, bronze is cheap in many areas of the world at the introduction of steel, far cheaper than steel itself. Hence, during the late bronze age, many cultures (not just those crazy Greeks) made extensive use of bronze-based armor. But, once again, it had to be thick to resist the new steel weapons.
Steel armor:
From 200ish BC, with the introduction of the Lorica Segmentata (Roman armor) up through World War I, with the anti-shrapnel armor of the German Empire, Steel armor was king. Common to popular belief, early muskets were so underpowered that plate armor could and did stop bullets fired at it. In fact, they would fire a pistol shot at a breastplate to insure it was high enough quality to be sold. It wasn't until the invention of corned gunpowder and rifling in the late 17th century that it became a bad idea to wear plate on the battlefield. Cavalry men still wore plate chestpeices and backpeices and headgear well into the 19th century, and there were some applications of plate armor during World War I. But, for all intents and purposes, the widespead use of plate armor ended in the 17th century.
Crazy thing about those medievals, they sure liked to have weird names for EVERYTHING! _________________

Did you forget the glaive? i know it was mentioned, but no picture. could you not find one? Also, There are a couple of swords/other weapons you missed as well.
Swords: Flamberge
A giant, practically unbreakableitssofreakinghuge great sword.
Rapier
A one-handed blade, with a small hilt, and a firm 2 1/2 ft. blade.
Saber(Scimitar)
Similer to the falchion, this blade is thinner and has a greater curve, it's perpous being to catch another's blade in a parry, and either throw their blade to the side, or disarm. commonly found in middle-eastern and arabian culture.
Staves
Halberd: very similer to the scythe, with is a long staff with an inward curved blade on the end. used for colateral damage and impaling from a distance. Halberds have longer and thinner poles, and are much easier to hand, making it a great weapon.
Glaive: a firm, easy to handle staff with a scimitar blade on the end.
Axes
One handed: used for quick slashes, usually resulting in a gash or severed limb. often found being used with a shield.
two handed: Used for a greater effect of the one handed axe. this is not commonly found, since you have no other protection but your armor.
Hammers are not commonly found, considering they offer no protection. although, when found in the right hands, this is a nasty weapon to go up against. used for crushing limbs and dazing enemies into confusion, along with knocking down. when you are down against a hammer warrior, he will offer you no mercy.
Thats about it, sorry for no pictures.

nope. a kodachi is a short sword. it was used in ancient japan and its length was between that of a katana and the short sword, the wakizashi, i believe. this type of sword was mainly used for defense and was a very effective weapon.

The Barrett M107 is the latest and most powerful sniper rifle. It fires .50 caliber round that is the size of a cigar. The bullet travels at 2850 feet per second and a single round will blast a head sized object into oblivion. It will literally cut you in half.

Actually the Bastard sword is a hand and a half blade. it was made to be 1-2h.
longsword is the standard size of a sword not much smaller then the bastards. im not for sure if this is the reason but longswords get the name because shorter swords came first, then people made longer swords and simply called them longswords. thats my speculation i have no facts to prove this.
medieval era is one of my faves... i have been active with it for some time now. i have been in SCA and i do Dagorhir aside from those i procrastinate go to a couple local Ren faires ~_~; and learn from reading. and no where have i found that longswords are 2h. and i just proved myself wrong lol
Longswords
The Armour is kinda incorrect.
Bronze aremour was during the bronze era. not all Greek soldiers wore it. they were given spear, shield, and i think the Helm. maybe not the helm. anything else was their to buy. and alternative to bronze armour was layered linen. 1/4 inch thick. it wasnt as efective as bronze but cheaper and easier to ge thold of and repair.
traditional Chainmail (Mail Armour)that has battle wear
Lamellar made from leather, later on metal was used. also called Scale Mail
Plate Armour
now to name the individual pieces on this guy.
Gorget this is the neck and collarbone piece
Cuirass. this is the torso piece.
the shoulders these style are Pauldrons, there are Spaulders that are slightly different.
the small plates hanging from the cuirass to cover the hips, thes are tassets.
the wrist are called Vambraces, you have the Elbow comps, gererallly articulated.
the upper arm ha a name but it escapes me.
there is the Greeves which are lower legs. the harness cover the entire or part of the leg. a 3/4 harness is upper legs and knees. full leg harness is greeves + 3/4 leg. the feet are like Sallets? or something like that. were used much due to wasnt a need for it. mostly for looks. leather or Mail was usually used under the plate for more impact absorbtion.
Leather was more common. Leather was used for Lamellar or Scale Mail. Chainmail was the next best. it was the more common before plate was developed to accomadate the ever increasing threat of weapons development. when horseback with spears started taking over, plate was developed cus the chainmail wasnt cutting it. Full plate can take around 10 minutes or more to get into and required the assistance of a squire. dont let the movies fool you. you didnt have to be noble to be a knight. you started as a page, which is a errand boy. you ran messages and such and served knights. then a knight would take you on as an apprentice. you became a squire. you would then spend a few years tending to the knight, learning swordsmanship and tending of his armour. the squire would clean and mainttain the armour. eventually when you have proven yourself the knight requests your knighthood from the lord. then you are now considered a lower class noble.
i know more about armour then i do about weapons. any questions limme know. i also have done a lil armour smithing. being a member of SCA. _________________ Deep in the depths of my mind is where my sanctuary lies, the place of my happiness. the place in my dreams.

Yay for stolen D20 Future Pictures.
Actually, I don't recognise all of those weapons. What supplement books are they from so I can buy them?
Edit: Oh wait, they are from the Mecha section. _________________ The character I play is not the real me. The same goes for everyone. Don't let character interactions cloud your judgement of someone. The characters are not the same as the real people behind them.

Akazaji walks into the armory with his arms laden with weapons. he sets them down on the table and proceeds to explain the fuction and specification of each.
Flail Type Weapons:
Flail: Commonly called a Ball-and-Chain, the Flail is weapon made of one (or more, as shown above) weights attached to a handle with a hinge or chain. These weights may be spiked, flanged, or smooth. Not to be confused with Morningstar, whose construction shares a similar, if not identical, spiked head.
Things an RPer should know about wielding Flails:
Quote:
-Unlike a sword or mace, it doesn't transfer vibrations from the impact to the wielder. This is a great advantage to a horseman, who can use his horse's speed to add momentum to an underarmed swing of the ball and runs less of a risk of being unbalanced from his saddle.
-It is difficult to block with a shield or parry with a weapon because it can curve over and around shields or armor.
-The flail needs space to swing and can easily endanger the wielder's comrades.
-Controlling the flail is much more difficult than rigid weapons.
-If the flail was swung with enough force it could crack open plate armour and stun the wearer.
(The following two belong in the oriental weapons section)
Nunchaku: A weapon from the far east, it is traditional weapon of the Kobudo weapons set and consists of two sticks connected at their ends with a short chain or rope. this rope is usually 6-8" long and the sticks are usually about 1' in length each.
Sanjeigun:also known as a Triple staff or Sansetsukon, it is in essence a large nunchaku with an extra stick attached. the sticks are also much larger.
Club/Mace Type Weapons:
Club: The simplest weapon in existence. it is quite literally a large and/or heavy stick you attack an opponent with to inflict blunt force/trauma damage.
Morningstar: A club-like weapon which included one or more spikes. Uses a combination of blunt-force and puncture attack to kill or wound the enemy very effectively. Distinguishable from the common mace by its material(almost invariably of wood) and spikes.
Mace: A mace is radially symmetric so that a blow can be delivered equally effectively with any side of the head. A mace consists of a strong, heavy wooden, metal-reinforced, or metal shaft, with a head made of stone, copper, bronze, iron or steel. head may be flanged to crack Plate armor and cuase more grevious damage. Usualy 2-3' in length. _________________ "The world is not beautiful, and in that way it lends itself a sort of beauty." - Kino's Journey

Amazing work very exciting I love the section on different plasma weapons and the flails are a personal favorite of mine.
I'd like to add, MAPHIA and early american ganster movie wepaons!!!!!
Brass Nuckles
Now hopefully that works right I'm not good with html, anyway; easily concealable up until the point you put them on. Brass nuckles are for hand to hand combat and result in greater tissue disruption and increased liklihood of fracturing a victim's bones on impact due to a harder and smaller contact area. Also a wielder may punch harder due to less anxiety about hurting there own hand.
The derringer
A small handgun usually hid on the ankle or under one sleeve on a small slide pice used for easy accesabillity, the derringer comes from a long line of even 19th century modles (1866 - current erra) used for self defence and surprise attacks. When the derringer first came out is was primarily used by women because they were easily concealable in a purse or by stocking-gun. These mintures are the smallest usable handgun of a given caliber and are based on single shot and generally are around .40 caliber.
The lead pipe
Often used in many great maphia related and valued movies of general villany the lead pipe is a symbol of the early stages of organized crime during the great masters' time Al Capone. This wepaon is less concsealable then some but offers better force when striking a victim in the vulnerable knee's, or over the head. _________________ When the people around a man get taken away from him you can't ever go back to being who you were.
